Summary

‘Charles Street Chambers’ is the trading name of Kevin Farquharson, a self-employed barrister, regulated by the Bar Standards Board of England and Wales, and insured by Bar Mutual. Charles Street Chambers is a single member chambers at this time; it is not a separate legal entity, LLP or legal partnership. 

Kevin Farquharson is registered with the Bar Standards Board and holds a current practising certificate. You can verify this and view regulatory information via the Bar Standards Board ‘Barristers Register’ here. 


Regulatory and professional information

(a) Practising Status: Self-employed barrister in independent practice, authorised to accept (i) private client (ii) legal aid client and (iii) public access client instructions.

(b) Regulator: Bar Standards Board (BSB) barstandardsboard.org.uk 

(c) Professional insurance: Professional indemnity insurance is provided by the Bar Mutual Indemnity Fund (BMIF). The level of cover per claim is £500,000. See barmutual.co.uk for more information. 

(d) VAT Status: Kevin Farquharson does not currently charge for VAT. 

(c) Data Protection: Registered with the Information Commissioners Office at ico.org.uk. Charles Street Chambers is operated in strict accordance with the UK GDPR. 

(e) Jurisdiction: Legal services are provided in accordance with the Law of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from legal services provided shall be governed by and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. The scope of any work undertaken will be confirmed in writing if instructions are accepted.

Testimonials

The testimonials on this website were provided in 2025 or 2026 by a mix of both current and former clients, and relate to cases between 2012 and 2025. Dates and client names are omitted to protect anonymity. ‘Private Client’ refers to a client who was the subject of the legal proceedings; such clients may be Public Access or represented by a solicitor; ‘Professional Client’ refers to solicitors or other professionals, such as Children’s Guardians. The testimonials have been collected in strict accordance with Bar Standards Board guidance and rules. Clients are required to complete a client testimonial consent form which is retained for BSB inspection if requested. Clients are entitled to request the removal of their testimonial at any time.
